Many hearing aid types are currently available.
Three of these models are worn inside the ear (ITE, ITC and CIC). These hearing aids are made according to ear print and hearing loss degree.
- The CIC is one of the most recent model as well as the most discreet. It is placed at the bottom of the auditory canal and is practically invisible.
- ITC model is the most prescribed hearing aid since it is convenient for many types of hearing losses as well as very affordable.
- The ITE model is recommended for more significant hearing loss. It is also easier to handle.
- BTE model is very well indicated for children in growing stage. Contrary to popular beliefs, this model is also available in digital technology.
- OpenFit hearing aids were created a few years ago and they are practically invisible. It is the smallest, tiniest “behind-the-ear” hearing aid imaginable, with a simple slim tube bringing the sound into the ear canal. This type of hearing aid is not custom-made given that the tube is barely touching the sides of the ear canal for the best possible comfort.

solutions for better hearing
Neglecting to correct your hearing means depriving yourself of an important part in your well-being. There is really no excuse, since there are solutions to almost any kind of hearing loss. Solutions adapted to your own needs, to your way of life, in fact, to your personal requirements! The hearing aids actually available have nothing in common with older generation models, because the variety, the incomparable sound quality and the hearing comfort have substantially improved in the last years. Why, then, remain deaf to hearing correction?
Why a stereophonic equipment?
Very frequently, both ears are affected by deafness. In such a case, and without contraindication, it is essential that both ears be fitted. The correction of only one ear does not allow proper sound location and deprives of a satisfactory speech comprehension in group discussions and in noisy environment. Would you wear a monocle when you really need glasses? Of course not! Stereophonic hearing aids are the only way to go. They restore the spatial effect of sound and provide incomparable comfort.
A hearing aid that meets all your needs
Digital technology offers numerous and highly performing possibilities. In fact, progress realized these last years in the field of hearing correction has been significant. Today, hearing aids combine high sound quality, extreme discretion and ease of use. Digital hearing aids exist in Behind-the-ear (BTE) and In-the-canal (ITC) models. Your audioprosthetist at Les Centres Masliah will help you choose the solution best adapted to your needs.
The digital sound : Your ears take advantage of it too !
Digital hearing aids, particularly those of the last generation, reproduce sound with a remarkable purity. Through digital data processing and computer adjustment, the audioprosthetist can realize a very precise adaptation that responds to the exact needs of the hearing impaired. Many patients originally fitted with analog (conventional) systems have changed for the digital hearing aid. They now enjoy great satisfaction and well-being in their daily life.
Elimination of internal background noise
With the digital hearing aids, the internal noise is practically inexistent, so even the slightest hearing loss can be corrected.
Automatic adaptation of amplification to surrounding sound level
Gain (provided amplification) is now defined independently for each canal, and not for the entire bandwidth as it used to be, thus providing a better modulation of the equipment. In most hearing aids, gain automatically adapts to the surrounding sound level. In other words, a loud sound won't get the same amplification than a low level sound.
A better processing of intensity variation
In hearing correction equipment, compression regulation adapts amplification to the residual dynamic of the hearing impaired (ie the range of intensity variations the patient can stand without reaching his threshold of discomfort). With digital technology, compression regulation becomes completely flexible in each channel.
Possibility to treat speech and sound separately
A great number of digital hearing aids have a system that can distinguish speech from sound. When the sounds are captured, these hearing aids recognize speech from noise. These two types of sound will then be treated differently. This possibility evidently is a great asset in improving speech comprehension, especially in noisy environment.
Directional microphone
Directional microphone technology is available on most models. These microphones emphasize sound in front of you, which allows considerable reduction of unwanted surrounding sounds (restaurant, conference, theater…).
Data Logging
The cutting edge technology now offers "data logging". This internal memory keeps a record of the statistics regarding which listening situations the patients live with every day (noisy environments, the noise level, speech only, speech-in-noise, music, how many hours a day they wear their hearing aids, etc.) Then the audioprosthetist can consult the logged data from time to time to personalize the adjustments, to fit their particular life style.
